our women on Thursday held a topless protest in Sydney in support of 18-year-old Rahaf Mohammed Al-Qunun, who claimed to have run away from her abusive family and feared she would be killed if sent back home.
The women dressed only in jeans and calling themselves, the Secret Sisterhood, protested outside the building housing the Saudi Consulate, called on Australia to grant Rahaf residency.
It comes after Australia said it would consider granting a humanitarian visa to the teenage girl who had barricaded herself in a Bangkok hotel room and launched a dramatic bid for asylum via social media.
The women had "Secret Sisterhood" written on their backs. They also held placards with messages, reading, "Let her in", ''Rahaf Sisterhood Hero" and "All women free + safe" among others.
The organisation's founder Jacquie Love said, "We are here to encourage them to let her in."
"We decided to go topless because we believe all women should be able to express themselves freely and safely and we wanted to send a message to Rahaf that we can actually do that in Australia, that women can actually be free and safe," Love said.
Secret Sisterhood has also set up a GoFundMe account, which has raised $3,680 for Rahaf at the time of writing this copy.
Rahaf has also been recognised by the UN as a refugee and her case has been referred to Australia for possible resettlement.
