Australia Day honors 2019: FULL LIST - Kylie Minogue and Peter Reith included

This year’s Australia Day honors list includes the highest proportion of women ever, with Olivia Newton-John and Kylie Minogue both listed. However female recipients still make up just over a third of the list, which is a 4.5 percent increase from last year. A record 1,400 Australians were awarded in the honors, including seven former Liberal or National male politicians.

These include former Nationals male politicians, former Nationals leader Warrant Truss, former deputy Liberal leader Peter Reith, and former Liberal national director Tony Nutt.
A total of 1,127 people were made companions, officers or members of the Order of Australia or received the medal of the Order of Australia, in honor of their achievements.
However, of these awards, 422 were women (37.5 percent) which is the highest number and percentage of women to be honored ever.
Although the percentage is short of the new 40 percent target.

The highest award which can be bestowed is the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC).
A maximum of 35 ACs are given out each year and the recipients have typically been made.
Since the award system was introduced in 1975, 82.5 percent of the 491 ACs awarded have gone to men.
This year, nine of the 19 ACs on the Australia Day list are women, including philanthropist Pauline Gandel.

The other Australians to be made companions of the Order of Australia, include former men’s tennis world No1 Roy Emerson, current high court justices Michelle Gordon and Geoffrey Nettle and children’s author Jennifer Rowe - better known as Emily Rodda - who wrote the Deltora Quest and Rowan of Rin series.
Company director Jillian Broadbent has been recognized for her service to corporate, financial, clean energy and cultural institutions, to higher education and to women in business. She was awarded an AC.
Ms. Broadbent has been part of the honors community since she was made an Officer of the Order (AO) in 2003.

She said: “I’m all for unlocking the power of diversity and inclusion and I think these awards do that.
“A meritocracy is so influenced by the lens through which you view it. Hopefully, once we get more participation of women and full participation the gender issue will disappear.
“If you went back to 1975, your mental vision of who should be the recipient of these awards would likely have been a male figure. Thankfully we are moving on.”
She said she was very honored and proud to have recognized with an AC.
