People Who Eat This Food Have More Sex

And the fact that the so-called Blue Zones, where people statistically live the longest, enjoy a Mediterranean diet that’s heavy on seafood suggests it also helps extend your life.
Now, a new study published inThe Journal of Clinical Endocrinology&Metabolism has found that it also gives your sex life a major boost, and might even help you get pregnant.
Researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health asked 501 couples in Michigan and Texas who were trying to conceive to log in their daily seafood intake and rate of sexual frequency in a journal for four years. They then followed up with them for a year or until they became pregnant.
What they found was that a whopping 92 percent of couples who ate fish more than twice a week were pregnant by the end of the year, compared to only 79 percent of couples who consumed it less frequently. What’s more, those who ate the most seafood were also found to have sex the most often, about 22% more than those who ate less fish.
How the seafood affects a couple’s ability to conceive is relatively easy to pinpoint, since those magical omega-3 fatty acids have positive affects on conception by improving the quality of semen and embryos, stimulating ovulation, and boosting the levels of the sex hormone progesterone. Obviously, if these couples are having more sex, that could also be one of the reasons they’re likely to get more pregnant.
How seafood provides a boost to sex life is more of a mystery. But what is clear is that couples, especially those who are trying to get pregnant, should be eating more fish, in spite of concerns around mercury levels (according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 90 percent of the fish in the United States contains low concentrations of mercury and is safe to eat).
“Our results stress the importance of not only female but also male diet on time to pregnancy and suggests that both partners should be incorporating more seafood into their diets for the maximum fertility benefit,” lead author Audrey Gaskinssaid in a news release from The Endocrine Society.
